Despite its name, laid-back University Heights has no University in the neighborhood. Instead, it has an eclectic range of cozy coffee shops, diverse restaurants, and quirky shops, principally along Park Boulevard. The Diversionary Theatre, an LGBT-inspired playhouse, also lies in this buzzing commercial hub. Trolley Barn Park is the local go-to for summer concerts and movie nights. Saturday night brings the Comedy club at the Twiggs Café where local and national comics practice their new routines to an enthusiastic intimate crowd. There is no cover charge, and you can bring in outside food and beverages of all kinds. While not every neighborhood in San Diego can claim this, University Heights is one of the best neighborhoods to raise a family in. There are great schools, daycares, and pre-schools for children to attend and the area is very safe and quiet. The north and western ends of University Heights features many homes on the edge of a canyon with private panoramic views.
