La Quinta/Indio

La Quinta is a desert resort city in and is located between Indian Wells and Indio. It is one of the nine cities that kame up the Coachella Valley. It is known as the "gem in the desert" for its sunny skies, mountain views, luxurious living, boutique shopping, health and wellness focus, world-class golf courses, and of course, its pristine desert setting. La Quinta is one of the leading golf destinations in the US and includes the La Quinta Resort and Club, a resort dating to 1926, where director Frank Capra wrote the screenplay for Lost Horizon. Also, the Tom Fazio-designed golf course at The Quarry at La Quinta is ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the United States. The SilverRock Golf Resort became one of the four host golf courses for the annual Bob Hope Chrysler Classic PGA golf tournament.
The most prominent feature of the La Quinta area is its Santa Rosa Mountains. The city has been home to a number of celebrity residents, including the late Merv Griffin. Griffin was the driving force behind the annual La Quinta Arts Festival, one of the country's leading plein air art shows, and was instrumental in the development of Griffin Ranch, La Quinta's first equestrian-oriented resort residential neighborhood.
Two city restaurants are owned by notable residents: the Arnold Palmer Restaurant, owned by professional golfer Arnold Palmer, and Devane's Old Town, owned and operated by actor William Devane. Both restaurants are located in the La Quinta Village.

Indio
Named the City of Festivals, Indio has become a favorite destination for foodies and music lovers, attracting more than 1 million people each year for its multiple mainstream events, including the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival. Get your tickets in advance to see top artists perform on stage at the Empire Polo Grounds, or check out the local music scene on weekends at The Date Shed , a date repository-turned-hip, live music venue. Other must-see Indio attractions include the Coachella Valley History Museum , home to the world’s only date museum; the Riverside County Fairgrounds , host site of the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival; the Empire Polo Grounds and Fantasy Springs Resort Casino , one of the most luxurious hotels in Indio known for its 2,000-plus slot machines, a regular lineup of touring acts, and late-night laser bowling.
The natural beauty and perfect winter climate combine to make the City of Indio the leading city in the region. Located in the Coachella Valley in Southern California, Indio spans 30 square miles and is the largest municipality in the Valley, both in area and population. Following significant growth in the region, Indio has seen a 73% increase of residents since 2000. This dramatic growth and success in recent years has required strategic response by City leadership in the upgrade of infrastructure and services. Today the population in Indio is approximately 85,000. Indio has historically been the main population center in the Coachella Valley and continues to serve as the location for Riverside County’s eastern branch offices.
With fabulous weather, Indio offers abundant outdoor activities including renowned polo matches, championship golf, cycling, equestrian events, and hiking. This ideal climate, combined with exceptional conditions for growing various crops and an ample supply of ground water, allows agriculture to remain the second largest industry in the Coachella Valley. Tourism is ranked as the region’s top employer. With close to a million visitors each year attending its various festivals, shows, concerts, and events, Indio is known as the “City of Festivals.”
